Tianning Temple is one of the famous historical places in Changzhou. It was firstly built in the Yonghui Period of the Tang Dynasty (650-655 AD) and it has a history of over 1300 years. For its long history and magnificence, Tianning Temple is reputed to be the Number One Buddhist Temple in the Southeast of China. It is characterized by its magnificent halls, huge Buddhist statues, wood and brick carvings of brilliant color. A long procession of famous monks marched through successive dynasties here. Tianning Temple is situated by the side of Yanling Eastern Road in Changzhou. It was listed as a place of historical interest under the provincial level protecyion and was determined by the state council to be among the important temple across China.
